‘Never Tell Me The Odds’ (Star Wars) - Canvas Limited Edition
-
This is a cracking example of another style of working where it is a much more abstract approach, rather than intensely detailed scenes. It involves building textures to create interest and shapes that mimic the moment that you are capturing. I have done this occasionally throughout the years and have always loved it as it allows you to be so much more expressive, especially when creating the original piece on canvas, which this one really is just that! Go check it out if you can!
What we see is Han Solo encased in Carbonite, I almost typed Kryptonite as my head is full to bursting here but luckily not, as that would have got me in a bit of trouble with the ‘die-hards!’. The very nature of the metal meant that a straight up black and white, tonal piece in this style was perfect, and the result is great! The image of Han trapped, and his expression is so iconic, I remember watching the movie as a kid and it creeping me out! So just creating the figure alone would have been dramatic enough but I wanted to add more interest without diluting the overall impact.
So, the background that surrounds him is enhanced with key characters from the plan to imprison Han Solo, I haven’t tried to disguise them too much, so they are easily identifiable for you guys to enjoy. The subtle title of the piece scrawled across the artwork is a nice touch also. I always love working on Star Wars inspired art and this is no exception, it looks amazing in all formats, especially when hand embellished. I look forward to hearing what you think. I would say that the force is strong with this one, but I fear I have used that so many times already!
