The Last Cuppa (Alice In Wonderland) - Original

Mark Davies British Artist

  • I wanted to create something surreal and random alongside the usual darkness and turn it on its’ head rather than being just another Alice piece, especially with he Tim Burton take on the film saturating the net. The overriding feeling of the film and the Mad Hatters Tea Party is quite simply, WTF?!

You always see the tea party set outside so for my interpretation I have put a concept to it. The scene shows an ageing and gritty factory that under locked doors is a production house for L.C Tea Incorporated (Lewis Carroll). They are producing their special brew, hypnotising trippy tea disguised in crazy and flamboyant tea pots. This secret operation was on borrowed time and they knew their time was up and were about to be busted. So the piece captures the point where the doors were flung open to reveal a really powerful setting of their final hurrah, their last cuppa.

Everything is still in place at the table with overturned chairs in the foreground to point at a possible disturbance and them fleeing. In all, it’s a random, highly detailed piece that combines darkness with light and through the powerful dark doors and surround really draws your eye to inside the factory like a big reveal. Even though the scene is set inside, I have introduced depth to the composition through the multi room set up of the factory
