The concept for both pieces focuses upon a collection of Robots and man-made machines rising up and taking back control to become the dominant force. In the first piece we saw ‘Johnny 5’ running amok in the ‘Lost in Hollywood’ (did you see what I did there?!) world of an abandoned theme park. Rebelling against what he was programmed not to do and with a blatant disregard for the rules set by the management, the neckerchief-wearing blaggard graffiti’s over everything that he can get his boney little fingers on!

My initial plan was to set this sequel in another part of the theme park. Throughout my ‘Storyteller’ works I would spend countless hours searching for inspiration for derelict and abandoned settings I would often come back to scenes from the theme park within ‘Pripyat’- the ghost city in Ukraine that was devastated by the nuclear disaster. A brutal example of man-made machines failing spectacularly. What I loved was how the theme park and surrounding buildings within the city had slowly been taken over, not by man but by nature. I have always loved this concept and I simply adapted this for my ‘Rise Of The Machine’ narrative, where this time the machines fought back.

When conceiving and creating a new collection, it for me is always intense and immersive so that I can release a truly cohesive body of work. It was because of another piece from this ‘Retrospective 2’ collection that what you now see for ‘Rise Of The Machine 2’ is completely different to my original plan. This came from binging on ‘Breaking Bad’ for my ‘Let’s Cook, Bitch!’ piece and from a scene that was set in an old car breakers yard. It just stuck and the end result is something that I am incredibly happy with.

The intention for my ‘Retrospective’ ongoing body of work is one where I invite the audience to step inside the eye of my mind as I revisit memories from my formulative years and early adult-hood, the ones with minimal responsibility! The great thing with this is the crossover between a whole number of experiences that involved sport, music and movies and so on. I love the chance to blend these in with my ‘Lost In Hollywood’ collections, but with a lighter, less conceptually intense narrative and an ability to add focus to the characters that I typically leave out of view. I love combining films into one piece, to suggest that these characters all resided at the same time just in different areas but came together eventually. It is just pure good fun!

There is so much to seek out within this scene, legends such as R2-D2, C-3PO, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee shine amongst the shifting sands that surround the ominous car crusher. Other more subtle objects come to life just seconds after being previously hidden by the sand as the wind reveals them to you. What I hope is that you will stumble across a small detail that you maybe not identify immediately but on closer inspection remember how much you loved that movie and that then ignites a linked memory to that. This is what it does for me, and I ultimately feel better for it and closer to my childhood as a result.

Progress is made by the improvement of people, not the improvement of machines.

Released: 2025

Collection: Retrospective 2

Edition Size: Unlimited

Print Only Specification: Poster print, hand signed by artist. One of the last details to go in and a big decision for me was whether to include Mr Stay Puft and if so to what extent. Originally it was just going to be a tiny section to hint that he is there but in line with this piece being a no holds barred exercise and that fact that he is my Mum’s favourite character he is there in all of his glory. In this instance the scene is set at the point in time in 1955 when lightning struck the clock tower with the Doc harnessing the voltage to direct it towards the Delorean for Marty to go forward in time. Unfortunately, you never know when or where it's ever gonna strike…

Look at the clock, it’s showing 11.04pm, history showed that lightning struck the clock tower at 10.04pm - so why are we seeing what we see now an hour on? So close but so far again, just like OUTASTEAM. An electrical storm has ravaged Hill Valley with lashing wind and rain and the effects are there for all to see, in catastrophic fashion. The lightning above is actually in the distance, the storm has moved away leaving behind a trail of destruction and cutting off the route back to the future. Lightning did strike but just shy of the tower, a huge blast set the court house alight leaving it to burn spectacularly. A fallen lamppost and snapped tree that burns from the current that passed through it each show the impact of the storm along with a burning branch in the foreground that has several key details surrounding it. The Delorean sits on the grass with doors left open hinting at a possible hurried exit, key objects that Marty owned are on the seat and in the footwell along with several scrawled messages that play out the conflict between BIFF and McFly. This piece works really well because like with my other pieces you cant see the characters, there are hints in the detailing that may lead you to decide what you think is happening or about to, for example - the bottom two windows of the court house are lit, a hurried exit or is someone in there?

Whereas the original OUTATIME was an homage to all of the iconic objects from the films with this piece I wanted to make it all about the atmosphere, not to create a static piece but one that you really get taken by the detailing and ultimately make the piece more engaging as well as much more technically challenging. The original piece hinted at the Delorean, a teaser almost but now with this piece I have shown it in it’s full glory. The detailing within the car alone is pretty intense - that decision to add driving rain to the scene meant that everything had to show this too, so look closely and you will see one hell of a lot of retouching here to create splashes, droplets and water trickling down panels and other surfaces, the fire also had to be dramatic but believable.

Released: 2025

Collection: Lost In Hollywood

Print Only Specification: Poster print, hand signed by artist. Six years on and wow! Seriously?! What a crazy amount of change and growth since then, I still remember the launch show as if it was yesterday.

The enormity of The Avengers franchise and its following was something that I didn’t under estimate then and I never will. I enlisted the help of a true fan to help do it justice and ensure that I got it right and that decision really worked! More importantly, it felt great as it was a collaborative effort, which is something that I always enjoy when creating new artwork. As so many of you were asking for me to produce a new piece, and seeing as though ‘Lost in Hollywood 2025’ is a body of work that showcases dramatic sequels to past pieces, it seemed the right time to assemble another dramatic scene! As with before, I have also taken the opportunity to get the suggestions from a ‘die hard’ fan so I can’t take the full credit for what you now see, thanks Jemima!

The plan for this new piece was to focus on ‘Avengers Endgame’, a movie that ironically premiered in 2019, so I am playing catch up! ‘The Fight of our Lives’ was set in front of a battered Grand Central Terminal in New York City, where I then set about hiding details amongst the rubble. This is a way of working that I love as it encourages interaction when studying the image. However, sometimes it is good to break away from that and go big, blatant and bold!

So, whereas the first scene featured a single portal with a subtle silhouetted figure, the intention here was to go for a much more dramatic image and portray the drama from the point where many portals had either already opened or were about to. From watching that moment in the movie, I was utterly mesmerised by the sheer intensity of what was playing out before my eyes. The interesting thing was when I started to research into that part of the film, there was a feeling of discontent amongst some fans that the chosen colour palette was a little muted. In my humble opinion, I actually loved the tones but each to their own!

Naturally as an artist you don’t simply want to replicate what you already know, where would the fun or authenticity be in that? To sit here and spend upwards of sixty hours on creating the image and hours after when embellishing and signing each edition, it would be so dull! So, I have gone down the path of making everything bolder, brighter and vivid for this take on the Avengers and I loved every minute of it. So much of my portfolio is driven by multi-layered narratives that drive complex and personal artworks, sometimes it is good to step away and focus purely on the technical skill and set about producing an image that is for the fans and one that can easily be enjoyed!

What you now see is exactly that, a scene that is full to bursting with an array of your favourite characters that each have been worked on to add even more drama and intensity. It is a tricky task to get so many to all work together and look united, I love a challenge and am so pleased with the end result. I know I said that this piece isn’t focused on narratives but there is something there with the way that so many come together to fight for one cause or person and the title pours light on that perfectly. I hope that you are impressed and excited with my approach and execution for this brand-new piece, it is such a great contrast to the 2019 offering and reflects the growth in confidence to not hold back, whilst always striving to improve on a technical level.

I look forward to hearing what you think!

Avengers assemble!

Released: 2025

Collection: Lost in Hollywood 2025

Edition Size: Unlimited

Print Only Specification: Poster print, hand signed by artist. I still remember the nerves that I had when taking on the monstrous entity that is ‘Star Wars’. I wanted to create something unique whilst being totally respectful of how adored the films and characters are. Over the past releases of my movie pieces, I have produced a select number of artworks that have been so well received. I would hope that it was largely down to being authentic to the narrative whilst offering something a little different.

‘Battled Passed’ was very subtle, even to the point where you could miss the key component that was camouflaged in the ferns. ‘Shifting Sands’ was again subtle but authentic, whilst starting to bring key details into view. My 2021 piece ‘Join Me’ was a big change, with the introduction, and dominance of lead characters. I am aware that some will always prefer the much less obvious interpretations and I completely get that, it’s great to mix things up though!

So, ‘Attack on Echo Base’ is well, I guess, a total attack on your memories, in a good way, I hope! My portfolio is crammed full of intense landscape driven pieces that showcase contrast in that moment in time. What you see is a baron, frozen landscape on planet ‘Hoth’ that is now bursting with action as good fights evil in a seemingly impossible battle to defend themselves and their base. The scene is dominated by the awesome AT-AT’s that are cutting through the battlefield, I absolutely loved these as a kid, great memories! I don’t think I ever had one as a toy, I had the Falcon!

My hopes for this image was to amplify everything, albeit with authenticity. Just look at how much is going on on land and in the sky above, carnage! It’s portraying a moment in time that I love, where a character can storm into view just for that moment before tearing off again. I’m sure I am not the only one to have been terrified of the Wampa! He definitely had to make an appearance, as did the brilliant Tauntauns that carry Luke and Han, although the latter appears twice, eh?! I will leave you to seek him out. Whilst I may have deviated from the original script, it has been for good reason, I just wanted to get so much in the scene, some blatant, others beautifully subtle.

I have such fond memories of watching ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ as a kid, what a movie! Before I take on a movie piece, I always watch the film and make notes. To sit there and watch this in High Definition was really something. I love seeing the reaction from my collectors to my movie inspired works, they certainly appear to pull on the heart strings and bring those memories flooding back. The whole experience of working on ‘Attack on Echo Base’ has been magnificent and I really hope you are blown away by the end results! I am so proud and excited about this piece. It isn’t just the final image, but more the process of how it came to be that I love. I like to engage with people to get their thoughts on possible pieces, often laying about in the studio over a tea and way too many bloody custard creams and I remember the idea for how to follow up on the first two Petrolheads pieces. Feedback and interaction are so important, naturally you must go with your gut feeling but I pride myself on keeping my ego locked away and listening to people that can make a difference and have passion in my work.

Back in 2018 when the first ‘Petrolheads’ was released, I had no idea that the reaction would be that strong. I loved the image and knew that it looked superb, but it was simply one from my ‘A New Chapter’ release. Yet, now it is without doubt the most enquired about piece and has sold out in every possible form. 2020 saw the follow up be released and has gotten a cracking reaction, I love the energy and drama on that piece as a contrast to its’ predecessor. ‘PH2’ followed on perfectly as it told the story about what happened when the film had finished, and they still had gas in the tank. There are more chapters to write on that group of cars, all in good time!

However, I wanted to do something different this time around. The idea was born from discussing possible James Bond pieces back in 2020 when I was brainstorming for what is now ‘Q Division’. The idea of having a stunning backdrop like Monte Carlo behind a selection of iconic Bond vehicles really excited me but I knew that it had more of a ‘Petrolheads’ quality to it, so that was parked (excuse the pun). I have held it back and back until the timing was right and what we see now is the culmination of so much planning and hours in the studio. So, what do you think?!

There aren’t many more spectacular backdrops than the Casino in Monte Carlo, if there are then feel free to suggest them and I will take the credit for any future piece! Joking aside, I love the splendour and intrigue of the building and with the beautiful tones of the fading light it comes to life, as do the cars! Good and evil are parked up side by side, a nod to how close darkness and light reside with each other.

For obvious reasons, Casino Royale is the base for this piece but it, like ‘Q-Division’ and the more recent ‘Underwater Love’ was created to celebrate the end of Daniel Craigs’ time as Bond, slightly delayed due to Covid but we got there eventually! As a kid watching the earlier Bond films it was always the cars and gadgets that excited me, Ok and maybe the Bond girls! There are so many of the classic vehicles that we all love, apologies if your favourite is missing but anymore and it risked looking like grid lock on the M25!

There is so much detail that surrounds the two cars in the foreground, details that hint at unrest and dark forces at work. It’s funny actually, as the iconic Lotus that went underwater was originally surrounded by a pool of water to link to its other use but with how my mind works it all went a bit dark after ‘Oddjobs’ hat pierced the car (that used to freak me out as a kid). Can you smell Petrol?

If you love the first ‘Petrolheads’ piece, then this 007 edition should get your engine revving as there is a sense of calm and mystery to the composition. I wanted the scene to be vivid and so intense to digest and ultimately fun. My father has a lifelong love of Steam trains so I have been drawn to the magic of the Hogwarts Express for a while now, having it stood there on that now infamous platform was the perfect focal point. Whilst planning the scene around the train and platform I quickly saw an opportunity to work in a similar way to a 2015 classic ‘Storyteller’ piece entitled ‘Dare to Dream’, a surreal take on Roald Dahl’s ‘The BFG’ where all of his magical objects and props are laid out in and around his case. I stuck to that and the end result is incredibly satisfying and personifies how I always love to link earlier pieces regardless of collection or narrative. The vibrancy of the magical details and the stunning Hogwarts Express and the quirkiness of the objects act as such a strong contrast to the darkness that lurks within the shadows of Kings Cross Station. There is so much that is open to interpretation here and so many tiny details, a true game of hide and seek and a piece that fuels the imagination to create something even more magical in your head and to embrace the fact that anything’s possible!

Released: 2025

Collection: Spellbound

Edition Size: Unlimited

Print Only Specification: Poster print, hand signed by artist. Without doubt the most requested and anticipated sequel to one of my earlier works so even though I always knew what I would do it certainly added something to the process! In fact, it almost didn’t happen, oh how we laugh seeing someone drive off with their fuel cap on their roof from a petrol station. What about leaving your studio in pitch blackness with your laptop on the roof before getting home and realising you left it in the studio but then approach a bend in the road to see what is blatantly your laptop smashed to bits after being run over by what looked like a monster truck.

The piece was about 80% done and saved ‘locally’ and due to go to print in two days’ time, oh how I wept like a baby. There’s a story for the Grandkids right there.

‘The Memory Remains’ focused on an intriguing, classic toy shop – a million miles away from how we shop for our kids nowadays. So, what we see in the follow up is inside the toy shop, a nostalgic feast of pretty much every toy that you can think back to owning or wanting to own. The room is full to bursting with classic games, toys and sweets in the hope that I have created the ultimate shrine to our childhood playtime. This is without doubt the most labour-intensive piece that I have created to date, with in excess of one hundred hours going into the scene. There are subtle qualities that link visually with the first piece in terms of composition and I am keen to see if you spot them.

I am always keen for my pieces to link together and this is done here by some of the toys and teddies being referenced in the toy shop that are also shown in my 2019 ‘Skool’s Out’ piece where the Summer holidays are in full swing (can’t help myself with the puns). This shows that everything revolves around the toy shop that you see here now, there was none of this shopping around or click and collecting – it was that trip in with you family or friends to the toy shop in town and you loved and lived every minute of it.

So, for everyone who owns the first piece or missed out but hoped for a great follow up I genuinely hope that you love what you see and that I have done justice to your memories. Whilst we are surrounded by such poor taste, I was determined to create a beautiful tribute to acknowledge the truly sad passing of our Queen.

A signature trait of my work is to create an image with a multi-layered narrative, one where you can simply enjoy it at face value or think a little deeper and look a little closer to discover a stronger meaning that, regardless of its driving force, is always open to your interpretation.

This shone so brightly with the aforementioned piece. It’s majestic. The concept of love knowing no bounds (something that I have built a body of work on since 2017) radiates from that image what with the various details that all link to their individual relationships with Her Late Majesty.

Everyone finds their connection with art for their own reason, and I love that, but with ‘Love Knows No Bounds’ there was a little detail, or should I say a little bear that is mentioned more than any other, Paddington. As a nation, our love for the little man is special and has remained in our hearts since childhood – it’s impossible not to love him.

As a Storyteller there is always a new chapter to be written and ‘A Letter to Her Majesty’ is mine.

The overriding concept was to explore the impact on those that are left behind to grieve after someone so special has passed. However, through being driven by a sense of hope by seeking comfort and support through others who are close by, it is the love and positivity that drives this piece. At first glance and on noticing the tiny details, sadness will hold you for that moment but then look a little longer and the warmth radiates just like the sun shines through the forest past Windsor castle.

In 2017 and as part of my ‘Love Knows No Bounds’ collection I created a beautiful piece entitled ‘A Letter to Aunt Lucy’ – an image of Paddington sat forlorn with his letter that he didn’t get the chance to send it to his dear Aunt before she passed. My original intention for this new piece was to continue this concept, however despite the image turning out beautifully – it was a little too sad, it lacked what was needed, hope.

I have embraced the connection between two people, or animals in this case. To shine a light on the positive impact that being close to another can have. Just look at that touch of the Corgis’ paw on Paddington’s arm. Subtle, not showy or elaborate – just honest and real. Look closely – have you seen both have a solitary tear falling down their face? Beautiful. Yet, it is a case of strength in numbers. Some are closer, physically, and emotionally but never discard the role of another who may be stood a little further away – their love remains the same, but their character varies – so they watch from a distance, but their guidance can be significant.

I am often asked how I set about planning a new piece and it’s a great question. It really does depend on the art itself and its reason. So, for certain pieces that need to either start a series or become a continuation of an existing one, the approach is completely different. Planning, positioning, tactics are all key. Yet for pieces such as what you see here, no. The seed is born from the heart and is grown and driven by genuine, real emotion. It is art with meaning, and it always will be, authenticity in its most beautiful form. It is through channelling all this that makes the result so full of impact and honesty and why it connects so strongly.

‘A Letter to her Majesty’ is as much about a letter from Paddington as one from myself. Like I said, the concept evolved – why? Because of where my head and heart are. I am an artist who is a son who has lost their beloved Father in September 2022. I am 45-year-old man who prides himself on his strength of character, yet I have been smashed to pieces, completely and utterly broken. At the time of writing this, it is a matter of weeks short of a year and with how freely the tears flow from just typing the word ‘Father’, it is a blatant reminder that I am struggling to deal with such an unbearable, claustrophobic sense of loss.

I have written so many chapters where my words have reached out to others to try and help, to find strength, comfort, and direction and now I need to do the same for myself. I accept and understand why I am where I am at this stage. I know I am strong enough to deal with it in time, just not now. For years I have grafted to set myself up with things that would help distract and help, not heal but help. I don’t mean materials; I mean the things that combine to create a sense of calm and that help lift you. I am so lucky to have a wonderful family so close to me that I know will continue to make a difference.

The words that I penned as Paddington are from my heart and that is why the ink runs. Does that make the boy in the blue coat me? No, Paddington is everyone who has ever lost someone and who still has so much to say and who are jealous of the angels that sit around their loved one’s thrones tonight.

It is almost ten years ago since I embarked on this art journey and right from the start, I have made it clear that art for me is everything, it is how I bleed but ultimately how I heal. It is my escape and my outlet for my emotions. The entire time there has been absolute heartache and battles outside of the studio and it is my art and my collectors that have formed such an incredible distraction that I will be eternally grateful for, you are like no other. Thank you for everything. x

Released: 2023

Collection: Love Knows No Bounds

Edition Size: Unlimited

Print Only Specification: Poster print, hand signed by artist. My aspirations for this piece were to create a beautiful picture that fans of the stories would love and embrace, for it to sit perfectly within my current body of work ‘Love Knows No Bounds’ where I showcase the interaction between characters and illustrate what someone is willing to do for love whilst also conceiving a narrative of my own that relates to impact of someone living with Alzheimers.

For those who follow my work will know there is a constant, the battle between darkness and light, despair and hope - this was never a pre-planned direction to build a brand around but one that I realised was forming without intention, formed from my own personal battles and the contrasting mindset that I found myself in at the time of creating a new piece of art. A piece would start out with the intention of being completely dark or the opposite yet as my mindset would change quickly throughout the duration of the piece there would be opposing details injected that I started to accept being a window into my state of mind where I struggled to keep staring at the sun without allowing the shadows to grow taller behind me. Creating this particular piece had to be exactly what it is entitled ‘A Picture Of Hope’, to force myself to keep my eyes on the sun in the hope that I won't see the shadows that will undoubtedly always be there. Looking at the finished piece I am incredibly proud that I have managed to do just that and my hopes are that it will offer some rays of light and hope to others for many reasons.

I loved the adventures of Peter Rabbit as a child, I think pretty much everyone did. The beautiful setting, the diverse range of characters and the edge to it with having the constant threat of being caught and cooked by Mr McGregor! I loved the illustrations, the compositions where characters would interact in front of the garden backdrop, the more I looked back in detail the more I realised that this narrative had the perfect blend of darkness and light that appeals so it just had to be the subject for this piece. I have created a powerful and intriguing backdrop set within the Lake District that inspired Beatrix Potter to write her stories originally. So much has been left to the imagination with choosing not to show inside the main garden, to fuel the intrigue of the viewer as much as those that you see in the picture. Peter and family are all there, as well as Squirrel Nutkin, Mr Jeremy Fisher, Tom Kitten and Mrs Tittlemouse - all under the close watch of Jemima Puddle-Duck.

The gate to Mr McGregor’s garden is propped open for all to enjoy, the rusting garden rake that once terrorised Peter and friends stands against it, for some time it seems as the beautiful garden roses have grown up and around it to keep firmly in place. Mr McGregor is living with Alzheimers and whilst he still embraces his deep-rooted love for gardening, he has forgotten to be angry and instead a much more youthful and warm trait has blossomed where he now looks at those who come to visit as friends and seeks comfort in those that bring affection and love through the gate. Whilst hesitant, not knowing how to adjust, fearful at first, those that surround Mr McGregor draw strength and courage from Jemima, a wonderful figure who never stops guiding, pointing them towards the sun. With everyone working as one you find the courage to abstain from the acceptance that a new chapter simply awaits but instead to write new ones, to make more pages within each chapter, to make new memories to replace those lost, to change the ending.

A picture of hope from me to many.

Released: 2018

Collection: Love Knows No Bounds

Edition Size: Unlimited

Print Only Specification: Poster print, hand signed by artist. When I set about planning ‘Lithium’, I wanted to deliver a mix of styles and formats, to continue to offer a varied and tailored body of work. As my ‘Vinyl’ editions have proven so popular since their introduction in 2022, the plan was to create a ‘Star Wars’ edition that paid homage to the power of the music that runs through the movies.

The idea was going to be that I took you inside the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, but the smaller format was proving to be restrictive given the fact that the image would need to work with various pieces of text, logos and an album ‘masthead’. This would have meant compromises and you can’t do that with ‘Star Wars’! There was also the fear that I wouldn’t be able to build a scene from those moments that differed enough from the original movie stills that allowed me to be authentic, respectful, and unique and not cross to the dark side. So that plan was put aside, however, the reason that it was shortlisted was because the format and film would go perfectly, so that can be for another day, not too far, far away though!

Past pieces such as ‘Join Me’ and ‘Attack on Echo Base’ have been all out-action scenes, where I have not wanted to deviate too far but to simply amplify everything to the level that we remember when looking back at that wonderful age of movies. I know you lot love my scene pieces so I chose to create ‘All Hope is Not Lost’ but differently to how it could easily have been offered. Several of my pieces within this collection are driven by the call to never give up, that help IS coming and good will overpower evil, even if it is right by your door. As there are no breaks when creating main collections, without a doubt this influenced my mindset for the narrative behind what you now see. I wanted to create something different, beautiful, and full of hope. I feel proud that I have achieved that in abundance, whilst not alienating those who love the drama and action.

Throughout my artist career, my works have never had to rely on characters to tell the story. It is written into the detail, the clues that are left behind. Art is wonderfully subjective and so it should be, there will be some who love the subtleness of ‘Shifting Sands’ and ‘Battles Passed’, whilst others will favour the no holds barred action pieces where characters roam freely. For me, this piece was taken over the moment I saw that beautiful image of Leia sat in her white dress, so calmy and with the look that immediately connected. From that point I was hell-bent on building this piece around her, and that look in her eyes.

Composition was a major part in this, and it is good to move away from any comfort zone. It is a strange feeling as you have this sense that you are doing something differently, but you can’t put your finger on it. It means you have this confidence and excitement that you are building something special and true to your intentions but where you also seek feedback and I guess, reassurance from those who either really know you or the target audience. It is so important to keep testing and questioning yourself and never being blind sighted.

So, the overriding concept of this piece is that her friends ARE coming, they may be one step behind, but they are on their way. Smoke plays tricks and clouds judgement and I know so many of you have thought that you have seen faces within backgrounds only to be told that it was a trick. Look at the Falcon, has it docked or in flight? Either way it is coming. Leia’s comrades have been depicted in a blackened silhouette style to suggest that are to play a key role in her rescue but not quite yet. Contrast that with the drama that is unfolding behind her as Vader, flanked by his Stormtroopers march into view.

‘All Hope is Not Lost’ is a shining example of the battle between darkness and light, good and evil and one that epitomises the impact of having people that you can always rely on, no matter what. I can’t ride a motorbike or a scooter, the closest I came was getting a bone-shaking ‘backy’ over the freshly ploughed fields of Great Barford as a kid and holding on to my mate’s big brothers motorbike as I rode back home on my Peugeot racer bike as he accelerated to the point that my tyres glowed a brighter red than all 4 cheeks. Yet my partner is desperate to own a Vespa so that’s good enough for me.

Research is a big part of the planning and the key detail that kept coming up was the ‘Battle of Brighton’ where the two groups caused havoc. Through using the smoke-like textures to create the body it gives off this wonderful ghost-like quality that is perfect for my ‘Lost In Hollywood’ series where we consider the characters from the film that are left behind once the filming stops and the lights go out.

The USA flag has been depicted within the body through the red white and blue and the stars whilst hints of the cityscape form the background. I knew there was potential with the heart-warming sentiment behind that piece and despite me writing this, sat staring at a screen knowing that I need to invest in some reading glasses, I have never been one to be short sighted.

Like I said, I knew there was a cracking potential to write many more chapters, but the way this has evolved into many different scenarios that paint a picture of so many of our childhoods has been so much fun. Without tooting my trumpet, I love how my mind works and to do this as a career is, well, the bollocks! However, I genuinely believe that a catalyst for the way this story has grown is down to you lunatics! The way so many have adored my retro toy laden art has been amazing and has inspired me to create what I have done over the past years.

Despite how successful ‘The Memory Remains’ series was, I stopped it at the four pieces. Not only did that reflect the very first concept and layout of the original scene but I didn’t want it to end up having more spin offs than ‘The Fast and Furious’ movie franchise! Yet, it is the determination to think outside of the box that has led to the parallels that have been born, such as ‘Skool’s Out!’ and the latest ‘Bollocks to...’ pieces. I wanted to open new windows into other scenarios after the point when we took those toys home from the toy shops, whether that be to the local park in the summer holidays, the Lido, or our homes.

Back in 2022 I created ‘Bollocks to Bedtime!’ and it was an instant hit, selling so well as limited edition prints and more recently the collector’s puzzle. Keeping that trumpet locked away, I still must admit that it does look a bit good doesn’t it! So, for 2024 I was keen to expand on this and not just show another room in the house but to show how us kids turned into teenagers and all the chaos that came with it. Positioning the scene would have meant that the troublesome teens would have been living in the early 90s’ which was a brilliant era! This immediately generated so many potential references to draw from as well as reigniting some wonderful memories.

Initially, the plan was to open the door into the teenager’s den, to allow me to combine the links that you all love, classic movies, arcade games and retro toys. Yet what you now see is much different and I feel even more engaging. What I have done is to create the ultimate basement hang out for big kids, where the entire family refuse to grow up! This link between the kids and parents was formed through showing you through into the garage and a pristine Harley Davidson parked just behind a gleaming Ford Escort Mexico! What is great is then noticing how some details show that the parents also used that space in the past and it now forms a cracking place for the family to hang out as individuals and collectively. Oh, and even the family dog wants a look in, maybe to just laze about on the battered old sofa, speaking of which, does it look familiar to you?!

As with so many of my pieces that totally immerse me whilst creating them, this scene grew and grew as more memories flooded back in and the concept evolved. As with ‘Bollocks to Bedtime!’ when the title came from a last-minute edition into the room, the same happened here, albeit slightly earlier on. Some pieces see the title born right at the start, but this was an example of being aware that what is being created is amazing but having no clue as what to call it! I will give you a little insight, there was mention of doing a ‘Toy Story’ piece next year and it was from that where the title would come to light. It was that refusal to let your cherished toys from earlier years go despite becoming a teenager, we can all relate to that, and I remember the boxed up toys from Andy’s room in the movie so it started me thinking!

Despite the focus needing to be kept on the early 90’s, I have shown a corner of the scene to have a number of boxes that were destined for the car boot sale or garage and have been intercepted. The scrawled writing tells you exactly what was thought to that! This was great to allow the visual and conceptual link to previous pieces, as I love how many of you collect the series of these to display in your homes. It also is where the title came from, and from this point is where I started injecting some subtle details to mimic this, just pure good fun! Just like the kid’s bedroom, the basement is an absolute mess! The closer you look you can clearly see that a few parties have been held down there, PARTY TIME…. EXCELLENT!

I am so excited for the reaction to this piece; I didn’t want it to end when I was creating it. Whilst the previous piece was vivid and lairy in its colour palette, this is bright but warm, it reflects how it makes you feel when you position yourself in the scene and how those wonderful memories come flooding back. We all need that don’t we. The importance of a family unit and a great upbringing that we maybe took for granted at times. So, it’s not just a piece focused on the past, no. It’s one for the present and the future as it reminds us how we can create many more memories and live and love the right way. At the risk of sounding a bit soppy, I just absolutely love how I feel from producing my nostalgic scenes, I need it and clearly so do you. We all have different memories to look back on, those brightest will always remain. Sometimes the years that followed would have blackened them but to know that my art helps to reignite that flame is inspiring and to hear of your reasons for collecting my work is genuinely humbling. My previous Ghostbusters piece ’Saving The Day’ sold out, which was the perfect result following on from my very first piece ‘Who You Gonna Call Now?’ that was so popular back in 2016. It is all about timing, with the imminent release of the new Ghostbusters movie ‘Afterlife’ (which looks absolutely incredible and true to the narrative and spirit of the franchise), ‘Lost In Hollywood 4’ is the perfect platform to bring ‘Bustin’ Ghosts’ to life!

’Saving The Day’ signalled a move towards a much more blatant interpretation of the film for me with the introduction of ‘Stay Puft’ and ECTO-1 shown in its full glory and the reaction speaks volumes. Throughout the past year the piece has featured in the backdrop to several high-profile personalities online and on TV which has led to some exciting things as well as giving me such amazing positivity that I will always value and embrace. I have had so much interaction with collectors and Ghostbusters fans with suggestions towards this new piece and I have certainly added them within this crazy scene that you now see.

Throughout my ’Storyteller’ works I have loved featuring grand old buildings that are starting to blacken and burn and there was always only one route for this new piece and that was to focus on the Museum of Art as it is overwhelmed by the pink stuff! The movie itself shows the building completely covered by slime, but whilst working on the artwork I was concerned that it would lose the impact and detail of the building. So, what you see is the point where the Museum is close to being swamped, with fires raging from upstairs windows and ghosts circling. I have gone with the much-overlooked ECTO-1A as the lead car, parked centrally as the Ghostbusters have torn into the building to wage war with evil! As soon as that car goes into the scene the whole piece changes, it’s just so bloody cool!

Another huge moment from the film and perfectly suiting the craziness of the era is when the Statue of Liberty rocks up to the party and she is a key part of this piece, whilst also not being too dominant. What I love, and I hope you do too, is that despite how blatant and 'in your face’ this image is, it still retains the qualities of my earlier works where you can’t quite see what is going on in the places that matter. This leaves you to decide what is happening within the Museum, has the key person evaded their trap?! Speaking of my earlier works, I remember a time when creating a blackened sky was a no no, well take a bloody look at this one! There is so much intensity and drama from above as the energy builds and the city of New York is threatened!

You know how I love my colours, and I’ve gone to town here! The pinks against the blues are so incredibly vivid and perfect for the era that it was set. ‘Slimer’ was well hidden in ’Saving The Day’ (did you ever spot him?), but he is coming right at you in this one! What a brilliant character! A later addition to the piece was the introduction of the Titanic and I absolutely love how it has turned out and the qualities that it brings to an already rammed piece. You’ll remember from the film that the line ‘better late than never’ featured as the ghost ship finally docked, how creepy was that scene?! I didn’t feel that it suited this piece, so I have switched it and what we see is her sailing majestically past with her lights further adding to the beautiful colours above. I just love it, there has been plans for a Titanic inspired piece for years, this isn’t it, but it shows the potential!

I have absolutely loved working on this piece, the memories that Ghostbusters stirs up is so strong and so needed. I am often asked what is my favourite film as a kid, I used to say that I had several. But from working on these 3 pieces over the past 5 years and the intensity of the childhood memories that explode every time, I can confidently say that Ghostbusters is my all-time favourite and judging from the reaction since day one it appears I am not alone. No individual owns the 80’s but I own and need my memories and I love the fact that I have an ability to share these with you and to create so much joy to so many. This time it is ‘Checking Out’ to complement ‘Smile’, but is it a sequel, or a prequel? You tell me. After all, it is driven by the ever-revolving door of the Asylum and the acknowledgement that one can check out any time they like but can never leave. Did you spot that in ‘Smile’?

The narrative remains, it is just a different point in time. ‘Smile’ explored the contrast between the two Jokers in the room and raised the question as to who is the most dangerous? The one who is burning with rage on the outside, or the one who is oblivious to what burns from within, beneath their happy face? You decide.

That lyric, you must have heard it! The Eagles, ‘Hotel California’ has driven the concept and fits beautifully. The acceptance that mental health is an illness, not a state of mind is everything. The acknowledgement that it is so easy to fall back without professional help and loving support. Details within the scene such as ‘back so soon?’ highlight the digs from those who ring fence, dismiss, pour judgement and scorn on those who suffer, whilst also hinting at the thoughts from those who struggle where they are resigned to their fate and weighed down by their devil on their shoulders.

I have always been open with how the mental health side of the Joker movies has always gripped me much stronger than the other spectacular details. We can relate to it so much more, not that is necessarily a good thing. The complete mutation and utter devastation caused by someone being failed and left to fall is scary and scarily real. Why so serious? Because it bloody needs to be.

I love the response to ‘Smile’, a ‘Lost in Hollywood’ piece with a ‘Storyteller’ undertow. ‘Checking Out’ has turned out beautifully. One to be enjoyed by fans of the movies and its villains but also a piece of art that has so many subtle details that link to the concept. Look at the interaction of the crows for instance, subtle but shouty.

I have set this scene within the grounds of the asylum, dominated albeit not reliant upon by Heath Ledger’s Joker as it paces towards you, leaving utter carnage in his wake. It is that moment from the movie when he has just blown up the hospital but re-told in my own way. By placing this at the asylum it further supports the narrative, yet is he the most destructive? Joaquin Phoenix played the Joker spectacularly in my opinion, for reasons mentioned above. He is pictured, calmly sat as it all unfolds, yet what is he plotting? Who holds the key, or the trigger? Who or what is the trigger?

Yet, it is the two other instances of these Jokers that without doubt packs the biggest punch in terms of the mental health undercurrent. A solitary central figure, cast as dancing from the movie, lost in his own world of shit, yet twisted to resemble a conductor as he orchestrates others and his own downfall. Nothing can hurt him anymore; he has nothing else to lose. Cast your eye to the rear shot of Heath stood in front of the steps, head down. Checking in. Again. See hell, seek help.

Where shadows grow so tall, blackening the whitest of walls. Familiar and unfamiliar corridors roamed, desperate to get back to the place they knew before, but they just can’t kill the beast. It was a quirky and vibrant take on the period prior to the narrative turning seriously dark. So, there has been plans for an age to produce something that people will link to the darker side of Gotham. I have created some incredibly powerful pieces that focus on the mindset of the Joker, but I wanted to conceive an image that was more driven by Batman.

Is ‘The Dark Knight’ one of the most influential movies of all time? Quite possibly! The acting by both Christian Bale and Heath Ledger is nothing short of a masterclass. So, the decision was an easy one, this image was to be inspired by Christopher Nolan’s epic movie. However, I was adamant that I didn’t want my image to end up looking like one of the amazing backdrops that ran with the promotion of the film back in 2008. It could have easily happened, what with my love for all things that burn!

So, even though I set about focused on Batman, the influence of the Joker cannot be overlooked, so he features albeit pulled back and walking away from you, but his impact is catastrophic and claustrophobic. The composition of the piece has been created to depict two opposites, chaos and order, darkness and light, evil and good. A showman versus a silent protector, a dark knight. The choice to show the Joker with back turned was influenced by the recent success of my ‘Storyteller’ piece ‘Fight or Flight’ that also featured a figure with back turned, walking away – it is so much more powerful in my opinion.

I appreciate that the fan base of this movie especially are true ‘die-hards’ and not only did I want to respect that but I wanted to not risk playing safe. The introduction of the characters is exciting, but the image is strong enough not to rely on them. I love them, it takes the piece to a new height but then look past them and there is so much detail to seek out as well as some obscure references to really test you! You know how big a deal music is to me and the influence it has on my work, having the soundtrack on throughout without a doubt drove me to inject so much more into what you see. However, there are other references that are music related and I won’t spoil it for those who want to try and decipher everything.

‘Chaos and Order’ is a shining example of how the lines are blurred between my ‘Storyteller’ works and ‘Lost in Hollywood’, it has qualities of both. I guess that is natural because of how my mind works, I am a storyteller, and you know what? I absolutely bloody love it! It is another example of when you stop, sit back and admire the work that you have created. A moment of calm after the intensity of creating the piece. The weight from the pressure of hope and expectation sits heavily but that is a good thing. It comes from the support of all of you, you drive me on… you complete me ;)

Released: 2022

Collection: Lost in Hollywood 5

Edition Size: Unlimited

Print Only Specification: Poster print, hand signed by artist. Well home is no place to get ideas for your Christmas list, is it? My insanely popular ‘The Memory Remains’ series featured a quaint little toy shop that then opened out into a vast cave of wonderment. The architects and structural engineers amongst my collectors would easily have thought how the heck was that possible from the exterior but it’s all in your head as a kid, it was always bigger and brighter in your imagination than reality and I have embraced that time and time again.

It's 2023 and I intend to embrace this Christmas, so I have gone big for this piece, bigger than BIG Ken’s Bell! Eh? Sorry, welcome to how my mind works! If you get it, I love you. Whilst so many of us have those memories of visiting the local toy shop and all of it’s charm, some will always favour the sheer magic and scale of the one and only ‘HAMLEYS’ on the iconic Regents street in London. Does it get better than that? Don’t spoil it and say ‘Duncan’s Toy Chest’, oh hang on – talking of spoilers ;) And don’t you dare say ‘Argos’, or ‘Toys R Us’! Those pens were crap, and that blasted giraffe was a bit creepy.

So yes, I have gone big, bright and quite brilliant if you don’t mind me giving my trumpet a quick tootie toot toot! ‘Child’s Play!’ was a genuine joy to work on, one that embodies why I don’t start off with a regimented list of what to include, it just evolves, swells and explodes out everywhere – just like those grotty bottied pigeons! This is as much an opportunity to look within the toy shop as within my peculiar mind! There is so much to see and decipher, I won’t attempt to list out or to even explain, I will just let you enjoy the madness and magic!

Art to me is everything, it is my escape and my time machine. I was going to drop in a line from ‘Back to the Future’ about not needing roads but it’s late and my bulldog wants his dinner, and his arse is my enemy. However, speaking of roads it reminds me of this ability to escape. It’s cool, you can keep the violins locked away but at the time I was creating ‘Child’s Play!’ my car had a cracked wheel from a pothole the size of the cave from ‘The Goonies’. I remember getting a lift from a good friend back to the studio and trying to explain what the hell I was doing that day. Have a good look inside Boba Fett’s cab and try and detail that to someone! So the idea being when you’re doing your research of the film plus being aware of the fact that the follow up ‘Maverick’ is due out this year (hopefully), you are looking at the concept that the US Navy air base ‘Miramar’ is now redundant and laying there derelict and weathered which is something that goes back to the ‘Storyteller’ collections of mine where you’re embracing that sense of neglect and time passing.

So that’s what we see here, Maverick has returned, he’s come back on his iconic motorbike and this is where the piece took a different turn. I have injected this underlying narrative that plays on the fact that he lost his flying partner ‘Goose’ but also the ghosts that he carries with him from his father and that’s referenced within the piece, you’ll see his dad’s crashed plane for example along with another that was fighting in Vietnam.

If you look closely at the bike, you’ll see ‘Goose’s’ partially destroyed crash helmet, so Maverick is literally carrying his ghosts around with him, as well as his baggage which is depicted through his flight holdall which is carrying all of all of his memories around with him. On first glance it just looks like a cracking way of being able to get all of those movie references in it but then there’s this underlying concept that’s much deeper and hopefully people will relate to that even if they aren’t necessarily a massive fan of the film but that the image and what it symbolises strikes a chord with them.

I’ve tried to create pictures within a picture, so if you look at Charlie’s Porsche for example, it’s just a beautiful part of the image and I absolutely love how that’s come out. When you’re watching the film and making notes it’s great to be able to get those references in there, big or small and there’s so much going on because that’s the concept, it’s him returning and all of his memories flooding back and being played out in front of him. He knows he has to go on a journey, he’s just not sure where it’s going to take him. It’s been brilliant to be involved with the piece, listening to the epic soundtrack again, it’s just been superb from day one!

Released: 2020

Collection: Lost in Hollywood 3

Edition Size: Unlimited

Print Only Specification: Poster print, hand signed by artist. There was such a huge scope on possible scenes that could be created and I still have those in my locker but for now I have gone full on with the imposing Hogwarts Castle and the magic that is contained within it’s stone walls.

The building is incredible, monumental in fact, by changing the perspective of the scene it amplifies this to a great effect and through building snowcapped mountains into the background it positions the castle much higher than it possibly could be and further adds to the majestic qualities of the setting and remoteness of Howarts castle. Expanding on the magical qualities of Hogwarts and the overriding narrative I have introduced dramatic waterfalls that spill over the jagged rocks towards you, look closely and they glow, there’s something in the water here. It isn’t just the flowing water that comes towards you, Harry Potter’s pet Snowy Owl is also in full flight as is something else!

This piece has a really strong contrast between darkness and light, genuine innocence and twisted evil that lurks in the shadows and the soot and that creeps up on the castle and those who reside within. Art with meaning, it is how I speak, how I scream, how I bleed. Do you see this as a truly dark piece, or much, much lighter? I’m genuinely really interested to hear your interpretation. Everyone’s minds and stories are different.

The scene is set deep within a forest, and further on than what was shown back in 2015 and my ‘Red Light Spells Danger’ piece. I have taken a bold step to introduce the cloaked figure with the single intention that it truly transforms the emotion that this piece of art exonerates. By being shown from behind, I hope it resonates with many, many people. The moment I placed the figure (I refrain from saying ‘her’ for the reason I just mentioned) it genuinely brought tears to my eyes. I know why I created this piece and that moment when the impact of the image and its narrative just hits you right in-between the eyes.

You see someone who is on a path, a journey, a moment when they walk on, approached by, and flanked by wolves. Each wolf represents another challenge, another beast that needs to be tamed, if not killed. Look closely, a wolf is literally on their back, I did say look closely! Now look at the cloak, look at the sheer depth and richness of that red. With that saturation comes shadows and there lies the problem. Light and dark, very dark.

Blackened, twisting thorns are interwoven with red roses and drive their way through the forest floor. Darkness resides to light in such a way that it can trip you up, the most painful falls are the unexpected ones. Sweetest tongue, sharpest tooth.

Rose petals from their cloak leave a trail of love and kindness reinforcing that the figure is good, wonderfully good yet who’s feet grow tired with the weight of the wolf on their back. Not every beast can be killed, sometimes it is just the acceptance that it can’t ever truly be slain but it can at least be tamed through the act of love, loving oneself. Keeping one’s wolves at bay can be enough to help you on your path.

A truly beautiful and pivotal detail within this scene is what exists beyond the figure, a clearing, a brief respite. What exists even before that is crucial. A beautiful white deer stands fixated and offers that much-needed guidance. Look upwards, the all-seeing owl offers wisdom in decision making. All hope is not lost. It never will be.

A copse can over time turn into a forest, those trees grow taller, denser, and harder to navigate between. The roots if fed, grow deeper and thicker and turn what was a thin trunk into something much stronger that creates darker shadows. Branches grow outwards and mask the light, to the point that it becomes harder to see the light of day and you become lost, lost in a forest of denial. If left unattended, what was once easily managed becomes so gnarled and claustrophobic that all hope can become lost and the brightest of sunlight is unable to penetrate through. Forests have clearings that offer respite and space to breathe, space to think before you’re back amongst the thick of it but stronger, taller.

Everyone is different, everyone’s reasons for becoming lost are different. We all choose different paths, we deviate off them, we are pushed and kicked off them but with guidance we can, and always must find our way back to our path. That path may then look very different to how it looked when our footsteps were lighter and shadows smaller, or when more walked with us, but it is our path. Keep your head up so that you can see the signs and your eyes open to acknowledge the dangers. How far in do you go before you admit and accept that you are lost? Do you choose a longer way out but it’s your way or do you accept guidance from others? There’s never any shame in that, sometimes the forest is just too dense and dark and you’re tired. With tiredness comes weakness and that leaves you open to attack from the wolves, either those that surround you, those that hide and hunt in packs or from the wolf within. Which has the sharpest tooth?

But please, no matter how dense the forest is that you walk within, remember that every forest comes to an end, and in its place, space to see, space to breathe and with it, the first steps on your path. You hold the axe, make your mark, small, sustained cuts initially or a single blow. This applies to how you enter, and how you leave your forest. The strongest trees can fall. A recent trip out to the cinema with family to watch the ‘Christopher Robin’ movie was the catalyst to begin as the narrative caught me out, seeing the consequences of neglecting one’s family because of work played out in such a considered manner struck a chord and pulled at the heart strings. Innocent yet guilty.

The challenge for this piece was deciding what would be best fitting, to embrace the beautiful sunlight that shines through 100 Acre Wood or to stand in the shadows of the Heffalumps and Woozles. If I’m honest, it’s a pretty even split as there is so much within the original narrative and the theories behind the characters that lends itself to a very intense and complex piece. However, at the time of planning this scene the sun was shining through the studio window and the clouds had cleared within my mind so what we see is an image that embraces everything that is enchanting and uplifting, created to make you feel comforted and nostalgic.

New works will feature modern-day references to link to the world that we live within and seek to escape from when we reminisce, acting as a stark contrast and helping to relay my narrative. This is showcased within the scene in front of you as you look out across the stunning East Sussex landscape. A table is being set for afternoon tea, but for whose benefit? Look at the details that surround the bench, is this simply a case of parent playing out their child’s fantasy or rather their own? Maybe their love for the story still takes up so much space in their heart? Has obsession won through and the only friends dining are those still cherished from childhood? Sometimes the smallest things take the most room.

As a father experiencing the pressures that come with having a beautiful daughter racing towards her teens, it is becoming increasingly evident just how the world we look back to in seek of comfort is so completely different to the one that we reside within. This piece reflects that, it’s a tale of contrasts, darkness and light yet represented in a different way. The scene acknowledges the change from how we used to read the stories by A.A Milne as children to how ours often now do. Does that mean that the screen dilutes the scene? Probably not, is there a case for pixels actually creating a much more engaging and immersive experience for the young mind? Possibly.

My aim, as with so much of my work is to create interaction between characters, to convey emotion. What I strive to achieve is creating an image that isn’t static, where what you see now is different to the one that I created a moment before. A stark iPad left in the grass soon attracts the attention of a woodland rabbit, or two ladybirds become acquainted… It is very much what you can’t see that is as important as what you can, that is where your imagination is awakened.

As the process of creating these pieces evolves over a good number of days they can often end up very different to what was initially intended as my mindset may change, even for that short moment. I will be honest, with this piece I had to fight the urge to mutate the concept and inject another level to the narrative based around the modern-day gadgets but out of respect for all of those who adore Winnie and friends I chose not to. It’s still there, I’m just not going to tell you!

So many know and love the characters for their ‘Disneyfied’ feel and I can see why, however further embracing the contrasts I have chosen to show the original toys that Christopher Robin owned as a child that inspired his father to create his masterpieces. They are beautiful and show their age and personality so well. Christopher actually lost Roo in an Appleyard back then so exists in the modern state, sat next to Kanga this reinforces the concept.

It’s amazing what happens when there is tea and honey, everyone and everything joins in. What’s with the random black bear cub and swan? You won’t find these within the Disney store yet these are two fundamental animals that without them things would be very different. Pooh bear was actually inspired by both, Winnie being a Canadian bear cub that Christopher Robin saw in a London Zoo and changed his teddy bear from Edward to Winnie. As for Pooh? Well, originally Pooh was a swan, a different character entirely! I hope you enjoy this piece and it keeps you looking towards the sun. I loved Dhalsim – he was like a double-hard Inspector Gadget. I despised Ken, arrogant as hell but he could do the ‘Hadouken’ like no other, so he had to take on Blanca one more time, oh and his crisp red outfit complemented my beast’s mane so the stage was set. FIGHT!

My brother had a NES, I was useless at ‘Duck Hunt’ so I stuck to ‘Paperboy’ on the Amiga. So, what you see is actually brutal yet beautiful, something that I have often embraced in darker pieces where we consider the negative as an art form and a thing of beauty through striving to master ones’ skill.

I also always intended to overlay the scene with gameplay screen details such as the ‘life bar’ and scores but I decided against this once I saw how intense and real the scene had become and it really felt like you were stood there watching the fight unfold rather than simply playing a game. This is the very quality that I hoped to achieve where you are using every bit of your imagination to really live the moment. Goldfinger was a particular favourite, it was classy yet had a real sinister undertone to it, the image of the lady dead on the bed covered in gold freaked me out as a kid! Have you spotted her within the scene?! ‘Oddjob’ was another that scared the hell out of me, that bloody hat! With names like ‘Pussy Galore’ and how my mind works, this piece could have gone in a very different direction but I was determined to create a scene with real class and focus on THE Bond car, the stunning and acclaimed Aston Martin DBS. The presence of the car is more than enough, you can’t mess around with it. The film had so many great locations but my preferred setting was always the stunning Swiss mountains and the Furka Pass that twists and turns through the mountains. This piece was only ever going to be about the car, surrounded by iconic details to seek out and in front of a beautiful backdrop – it is perfect for you to use your imagination and invent your own narrative as to where Bond is and what is happening. What I feel has worked really well is how the scene has been ‘photobombed’ by some of the native animals that live within the region. Bond could simply be out of shot stood admiring his car or looking out for others and a red stag just happens to walk into shot. That split second makes all of the difference, I love how it interacts with the gold bars on the ground – a nod to my ‘Love Knows No Bounds’ collection. I absolutely loved reconnecting to this film and this really has fueled my imagination for future pieces - do you expect me to talk?... With lines such as ‘I want the fairy-tale’ and ‘Cinda-fuckin-rella’ it was a must, oh and any chance to get an iconic car in and it’s got my attention. Like with other movies, this has been on my radar for several years and it is great to finally see it come to fruition. I have spoken before about how so many pieces have so many possible directions that you can take it in, and this is no different.

I love to research before making a start and it was interesting to learn that there was a much darker ending pencilled in that involved drugs which got me thinking. Basically, I drew parallels with a much earlier ‘Storyteller’ piece ‘High Ho’ where the Princess lost her Prince through her addictions, and I have no doubt that it would look insane but very dark. Bloody hell, I want to get straight onto that but all in good time! My fear was that when I first mentioned that ‘Pretty Woman’ was on the line-up that the majority would be hoping for a wonderfully romantic piece and would end up spitting their chocolate covered strawbos out in disgust! Big mistake, huge!

So, what we see is the stunning ‘Lotus’ parked up outside the beautiful hotel that are covered in the warmth of the setting sun. Key details from the film are laid out in the foreground for you to enjoy, whilst key moments from the movie are gently overlaid in the background. It is a really positive and cute piece that I really hope fans of the film will love, this is the one from this collection that I spend the most amount of time adjusting tones and colours to get the best effect and I am so pleased with the results, none more so probably than my production company who have gone through a forest worth of paper living with my diva-like obsessions with perfection.

The focus was to create a piece that would simply celebrate the narrative and the amazing chemistry between the characters and the lead actors who played them so genuinely. It is an image that I hope will make you feel great and enjoy seeing out the references that I have placed. Yet there is a subtle element that symbolises how someone can be set free and find their wings through finding who, or what they love. Have you spotted it? I loved re-watching the movie, albeit scribbling notes and telling others ‘yeah, I’m just watching the football with a few beers! I had to reign my plans in a bit though, I wanted to really get into the minds of the characters, to connect with that chemistry and emotion. So, the options were hiring a Lotus or seeking out a pair of those thigh-highs on eBay!
