- She has certainly changed over the years but wow! What a woman! The title draws reference to one of Wonder Woman’s earlier comic book catchphrases and is depicted within this piece through the dramatic details in the background and that surround her sword and shield. I wanted to achieve a contrast between the raw power and strength with her sense of calm and natural beauty. As with my Superman piece there is a meeting of her iconic blue and red from her outfit that creates purple, there’s something in that for sure. The overriding message here is that you are stronger than you think, more powerful than you realise.

I first introduced ‘Lunatics and Legends’ in 2020 as an exciting alternative to my intense, narrative-driven scene pieces. A much more blatant, ‘in your face’ abstract style of mixed media work that was all about the texture and embraced my blurred ‘push and pull’ method of creating a digital image. I had used the style long before this for much more niche subjects, so it was great to go to town on big superheroes and twisted villains. Despite these pieces not relying on a multi-layered narrative to solve what you see, there is still that element to them where the lines between who is the hero and who is the villain are as blurred as parts of the image itself.
So, for something new and another pun, I’ve been keeping my cards close to my chest recently, teasing you lot on what I had ready to reveal. Well, it’s time to show my hand, I am proud to introduce the playing card editions!

The intention was for red, white and blue to dominate the image and if you look closely you will spot the same star details that I first used in 2016 for my ‘BALBOA’ piece that featured the same colourways. In contrast to the blurred motion, I have lessened this around his eyes to really draw you in and convey this amazing sense of determination that the character portrays.
